Kenryou Gu was born in Kyoto and raised in Shanghai, and now lives and works in Kyoto. He earned his BFA in Photography at Kyoto University of the Arts (formerly Kyoto University of Art and Design), studying abroad at the École nationale supérieure de la photographie in Arles, France.

The spaces we exist are like waves that continue to move forward, never settle into a single fixed form, but transform as multiple temporalities overlap and interact. Within such spaces, Gu observes and captures moments that emerge in the ongoing interval between changing time and changing space. A liminal condition in which multiple temporalities intersect, perpetually oriented toward a complete form. Engaging with recurring elements beyond the scale of direct bodily perception, Gu reorganizes the information in its given state through a distinctive process that weaves time into relation. In doing so, perception and understanding also emerge as a liminal condition.

1994 年京都生まれ、上海育ち。京都芸術大学(元京都造形芸術大学)現代美術・写真コース卒業。大学在学中にフランス・アルル国立高等写真美術学校へ留学。現在、京都を拠点に活動中。
 
私たちが身を置く空間は、進み続ける波のように、一つの形として確定しきることなく、複数の時間が重なり合いながら変化している。顧は、そのような空間のなかで、変化し続ける時間と空間のあいだに現れる風景を見つめている。そこで捉えられるイメージは、複数の時間が交差しながら生成されつづける状態として示されている。自身の身体的な感覚では捉えきれないモチーフを扱いながら、顧は、そこに含まれる情報量を、時間を編み込むような独自の操作によって整理し直し、要素同士の関係を固定しないまま配置している。そこでは、私たちの知覚や理解もまた、境界的な状態として立ち現れている。
